Jack Herer died in 2010, but his mantra still rings in my ears. “Hemp can save the planet.” That was Jack at his core. That was his everything and his everywhere. We talked about it all the time. More specifically, what Jack said again and again is that hemp is for food, fuel, fiber, and medicine. He was constantly driving it home that, historically, hemp has always been used for those things. When I remember Jack’s voice, I hear, “Hemp for food, fuel, fiber, and medicine.” Today, cannabis is tied more to the word wellness than medicine, but the idea is the same. Hemp for medicine Dennis Peron, another dearly departed leader of the original cannabis movement, shifted the cannabis movement further into the perspective that all use is medical. Any time we’re using cannabis, we’re using it to feel better; to feel well. If there’s something we want to change, or if we need to look at something from a different perspective for a short while, we onboard cannabis. We begin to feel better. We’re more creative. Things become less tedious and more interesting. This is the power of a little bit of cannabis. When you look at it that way, all cannabis use is for wellness and medicine.
